Jasprit Bumrah’s 4-wicket Haul Swells India’s 1st Innings Lead to 308 Over Bangladesh on Day 2 of First Test in Chennai

Jasprit Bumrah, like always, stood out with his incisive spell of bowling to take four wickets against Bangladesh on Day 2 of the First Test in Chennai, restricting the visitors to 149 in reply to India’s mammoth 376. Bumrah found support from Akash Deep, Mohd. Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja. Wickets fell like ninepins as none of the Bangladeshi batters reached 50. India, in the third innings of the India vs Bangladesh Test Match, reached 81 for 3 at stumps, gaining an overall lead of 308 runs. Here’s how the Day 2 of the India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai went session by session.

Bangladesh Skittle Out India for 376, Conceding Just 37 Runs to the Overnight Total in the First Session of Day 2

As expected, Bangladesh took the new ball straightaway. Both Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud probed around the off-stump area, beating the bat on multiple occasions. Finally, Taskin was rewarded with the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja who edged an away-going delivery to Litton Das behind the stump. A lapse in concentration from the India all-rounder as he poked at a delivery without any foot movement. India’s scorecard against Bangladesh at that stage read 343 for 7.

It was the turn of Akash Deep to partner with the Centurion Ashwin, and the duo shared 24 runs off 40 balls before the former was out caught by Shanto off the bowling of Taskin Ahmed. Soon Ashwin joined the hut as he was also caught by Shanto off the bowling of Taskin. Hasan Mahmud wrapped up the Indian innings by taking the wicket of Jasprit Bumrah, who scored seven runs. India were finally bowled out for 376.

Jasprit, Akash Remove Top Three in India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Pre-lunch Session on Day 2

Jasprit Bumrah – The name is enough to send shivers down the spine of batters around the world. He proved his class yet again by disturbing the furniture of the Bangladeshi opener Shadman Islam for just 2 in the very first over of the innings. Akash Deep removed Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque off consecutive deliveries to leave Bangladesh reeling at 26 for 3 at lunch. Both were bowled by a beautiful inswinger from the right-arm pacer.

Post-lunch Session Saw India All Over Bangladesh as Jadeja and Siraj Came to Bowl

The first to join the Bangladeshi hut in the post-lunch Session was their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who poked at an away-going delivery of Siraj to give an easy catch to Kohli in the slip cordon. Bumrah then removed Mushfiqur Rahim who fended a back of a length delivery which seamed away a touch to find his edge to the second slip where KL Rahul took a good catch. The Shanto-led unit was in tatters in the India vs Bangladesh Test Match at that point. The scorecard read 40 for 5 in 12.5 overs before Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan shared a 51-run stand for the 6th wicket.

It was Jadeja’s turn to remove both of them. He first induced a false stroke from Litton who miscued a sweep shot, which went into the lap of the substitute fielder Dhruv Jurel at deep square leg. Then Shakib tried to reverse sweep Jadeja only managing to under-edge it to his boot, which then ballooned up in the air. Rishabh snapped it up as Bangladesh were in a deeper hole at 92 for 7. Soon Hasan Mahmud departed as the score read 112 for 8 in the India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai.

The Final Session of the India vs Bangladesh Test Match on Day 2 Saw the Loss of 5 Wickets

Bumrah removed a rather stubborn Taskin Ahmed by bowling him out for 11. At the other end, Siraj castled the stump of Nahid Rana to dismiss Bangladesh for 149 runs, helping Team India gain a massive first-innings lead of 227 runs. Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers scalping four wickets, whereas Akash Deep, Mohd. Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja shared two wickets each among themselves.

Men in Blue Scored 81 for 3 Before Stumps on Day 2 of the India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai

India decided not to make Bangladesh follow on by coming out to bat in the third innings of the Test Match in Chennai. Bangladesh struck early as Taskin Ahmed got one to nip off the deck to get the outside edge off Rohit Sharma, who was caught by Zakir Hasan in the slip cordon. India’s score read 15 for 1 at that stage.

Soon Yashasvi joined his skipper in the dressing as he edged one behind to Litton Das off the bowling of Nahid Rana, leaving the Men in Blue in a state of bother in the India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai. It was 28 for 2 before a 39-run stand between Shubhman Gill and Virat Kohli steadied nerves in the dressing room. However, Virat was out soon after hitting a boundary off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Although Virat was adjudged LBW by the on-field umpire and he didn’t go for the review either, the replays showed a spike off his bat, much to the dismay of India’s mainstay.

Rishabh Pant and Shubhman Gill took India to the close of play without any further damage. India scored 81 for 3 in 23 overs of their second innings. With a tall lead of 308 runs and seven wickets left, the Men in Blue are miles ahead in this India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai. They continued to rule after an impressive First Day display against Bangladesh at Chepauk.

We will update you on Day 3 tomorrow.
