Border Gavaskar Trophy India vs Australia 1st Test Day 2 – India Lead by 218 Runs as KL, Jaiswal Stitch an Unbeaten 172-run Opening Stand

A complete domination from Team India as they stretched their first innings lead to 218, courtesy of the unbeaten first-wicket partnership of 172 between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Both openers looked in complete control of the proceedings as they dominated the Aussie bowlers throughout the innings. India began the day by wrapping Australia for 104. Jasprit Bumrah claimed a 5-wicket haul, while Harshit Rana scalped three wickets in the India vs Australia 1st Test Day 2 at Perth.

Jasprit Bumrah carried on the good work he left on Day 1 of India vs Australia Perth Test, 2024. India began Day 2 on a fine note as Bumrah dislodged Alex Carey for 20 with his first ball of the day. The ball bounced extra to take an edge on the way to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. With that, Bumrah picked a five-wicket haul in the innings. Harshit Rana then got rid of Nathan Lyon with a short ball that took his glove on the way to KL Rahul at third slip. He scored just five. Josh Hazlewood brought up the first boundary of the day for Australia, albeit with an outside edge that flew past Rishabh Pant to the fence. Mitchell Starc hit a boundary the next over. The partnership continued to bother India before Harshit Rana got Starc out caught by Pant. Starc miscued a slog that went miles in the air and Pant took it cleanly. The 25-run partnership for the last wicket helped Australia notch 104. However, India clinched a crucial 46-run first-innings lead. The first session came to a close.

India Begin on a Good Note as KL, Yashasvi Find Form

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul looked determined and assured. Hazlewood strayed one down the leg side in the second over of the third innings in India vs Australia 1st Test Day 2. It hit KL Rahul’s pad on the way to the fence for four. Yashasvi Jaiswal glided one down the fine leg region for a boundary off Mitchell Starc. The duo left deliveries well and put away the bad ones to keep the scoreboard ticking along. Starc, Cummins and Marsh conceded runs, while Hazlewood and Lyon kept things tight. Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up half-century with a hard drive through the off side off Nathan Lyon. KL Rahul, on the other hand, brought up India’s 100 with a single on the off side. Starc almost got rid of Jaiswal when he edged in his attempt to drive through the covers. Usman Khwaja could not get his fingers underneath to grab a slightly tough chance. KL Rahul too survived a runout the next over. Jaiswal cut one to the vacant third-man region for a boundary off Mitchell Marsh.

The tiredness of the Australian bowlers was evident as Mitchell Starc gave a nice juicy half-volley to Jaiswal on his legs. The left-hander flicked it for a six behind square on the leg side. The last ball of that over saw KL Rahul driving it through the point for a boundary. KL Rahul, in the next over, brought up his half-century with a steer to the backward point region. Jaiswal stepped down to hit a massive six off Lyon over long-on. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul remained unbeaten at 92 and 62, respectively at stumps on Day 2 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia at Perth.
