Day 4 of the 1st India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai was eventful as Bangladesh after the wicketless first hour lost wickets at regular intervals. From 194 for 4 to 234 all out was a disappointing story for Bangladesh on Day 4 of the First Test Match in Chennai. The superb batting display by Pant and Gill on Day 3 was followed by a fine spell of bowling by India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who picked six wickets to help India register a mammoth 280-run victory over visitors at his home ground. Ashwin ended with figures of 6 for 88 in 21 overs. He was adjudged Player of the Match for his hundred in India’s first innings and a 6-wicket haul in the last innings of the Chennai Test Match.

Day 4 was no different as overcast conditions yet again welcomed India and Bangladesh in Chennai. Bangladesh Skipper Shanto and Shakib strode forward to the centre, looking to prolong their partnership on Day 4. Shakib hit the first boundary of the day by striking Siraj through the covers. Shanto at the other end looked nervous as Bumrah beat him on a couple of occasions. Shakib raised the second boundary of the day as he played a square drive off Bumrah.
Shanto soon got his groove back as he hit Siraj and Jadeja for fours in consecutive overs. Lucky for Bangladesh, as Shakib got a reprieve by Rishabh Pant who missed stumping the left-hander by failing to grab the ball. Shakib rubbed salt on the injury by sweeping Jadeja the next ball for four behind square on the leg side. Bangladesh reached 194 for 4 after the first hour on Day 4 of the 1st India vs Bangladesh Test Match, scoring 36 runs in 13.4 overs bowled during the period.
India Picked Wickets in Clusters After the First Hour on Day 4 of 1st India vs Bangladesh Test Match in Chennai
Ashwin took the first wicket of the day as he removed Shakib who gave a low catch to Jaiswal at backward short leg. Shakib departed for 25, hitting three fours. Bangladesh’s scorecard read 195 for 4 at that stage. Jadeja got into the act by edging out Litton Das to Rohit Sharma at first slip. Bangladesh lost two quick wickets in succession. They were all of a sudden reduced to 205 for 6.
Ashwin got a five-er as Mehidy Hasan played a rash shot to get out. He advanced down the track but could not get to the pitch of the ball. He hit it straight down to Jadeja at long-on. Bangladesh were looking down the barrel at 222 for 7.
More disaster for Bangladesh as their skipper Shanto holed out to Bumrah on the off side for 82 runs. He hit 8 fours and three sixes. Then it was the turn of Ashwin to add more misery to Bangladesh. He removed Taskin Ahmed who went for an ambitious loft only managing to give a simple catch to Siraj at mid-on. Jadeja wrapped up the Bangladesh innings as he knocked the timber of Hasan Mahmud. India won the game by 280 runs, bowling out Bangladesh for 234 in the fourth innings of the Chennai Test Match.
