Bumrah-Ashwin-Jadeja Bowling Trio Help India Win Against Bangladesh Comfortably on Day 5 of 2nd Test Match

Buoyed by incisive bowling spells from Jasprit Bumarah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, along with a half-century from Jaiswal in the fourth innings of the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 5, Men in Blue registered a comfortable 7-wicket victory at Green Park, Kanpur. Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged ‘Player of the Series’ for his half-centuries in both innings of the 2nd Test Match and sharp catches, while Ravichandran Ashwin bagged the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his all-round performance.

Visitors Wrapped Up for 146 at Lunch of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 5

India struck early on Day 5 as Ashwin induced a leading edge off Mominul Haque, who miscued a sweep shot to KL Rahul at leg slip. Visitors were 36 for 3 in India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 5 till that point. Then came the revival of sorts for Bangladesh as skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto joined Shadman Islam at the crease. They stitched a fourth-wicket stand of 55 runs before Ravindra Jadeja sent Shanto packing as the left-hander played a wild reverse sweep only to see his leg pole knocked back. He scored 19 off 37 balls.

Soon, Shadman raised his half-century. However, he played an expansive drive off Akash Deep that flew to Yashasvi Jaiswal who took a sharp catch at gully. Jadeja then removed Litton Das as he edged one to Rishabh Pant behind the wicket. In his next over, Jadeja dismissed Shakib Al Hasan who chipped it straight back to the bowler. A dramatic collapse for Bangladesh as they slipped to 94 for 7 from 91 for 3 in the space of four overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took Bangladesh’s score to 118 before India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah got one to straighten after pitching, inducing a healthy outside edge to Pant who accepted it gleefully behind the wicket. Mushfiqur, running short of partners, started hitting boundaries to take Bangladesh along. However, Bumrah removed his partner Taijul Islam leg before wicket for a 13-ball duck. The Indian speedster then knocked over the middle stump of Mushfiqur who played a wild slog, that too on the last ball before the lunch interval. Absolute BRAIN FADE that was from the Bangladesh veteran! Bangladesh’s second innings finished at 146, giving India a victory target of 95 runs.

Men in Blue Race to 95 and Win the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test 2024

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma started from where they left in the first innings by smashing Bangladesh’s opening bowlers Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan. However, Rohit Sharma, while trying to hit one into the stand on the leg side, gave a catch to Hasan Mahmud who didn’t have to move an inch to take it. Mehidy Hasan, for the second time in this test, knocked over Rohit Sharma. India’s score at that point was 23 as Rohit departed for a 7-ball, 8 run.

Mehidy soon trapped Shubhman Gill for leg before wicket. He was out for just 6. Then Kohli and Jaiswal stitched a 58-run partnership before the latter miscued a slog off Taijul Islam and saw Shakib take his catch at cover. Jaiswal smashed 8 fours and a six to notch 51 off 45 balls. Rishabh Pant came in next and finished the game with a smack over the mid-on fielder for a boundary. Men in Blue won the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test and the series 2-0.
