After a washout for two successive days due to a wet outfield and a truncated first day due to rain, the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur finally saw action on ground as sun shone brightly on Day 4. Buoyed by aggressive batting instincts displayed by the Indian batters, the Men in Blue are in ascendency at the close of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 4.
After bowling out Bangladesh for 233, India went all guns blazing to smash 285 in 34.4 overs, powered by blistering half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul along with vital contributions from Rohit Sharma, Shubhman Gill and Virat Kohli. At stumps, Bangladesh were reeling at 26 for 2. With a day left and the kind of domination India have displayed so far, the Men in Blue are firm favourites to lift India vs Bangladesh Test Series 2024 by 2-0. Here’s how Day 4 panned out.

India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 4, Session 1 Highlights
Akash Deep and Bumrah started well by beating the bat of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque on numerous occasions. The pitch, which was under covers for more than days, had some moisture underneath that helped the duo to extract lateral movement. Soon, Bumrah got rid of Mushfiqur who left a delivery only to see his off-stump knocked back.
The Shanto-led unit was reduced to 112 for 4 in India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 4 till that point. Mominul hit the first boundary of the day as the left-hander cut one behind square on the off-side for four off Akash Deep. Litton joined in the act by slamming Bumrah for three boundaries in an over.
Mominul soon took charge by hitting boundaries at regular intervals to keep the scoreboard ticking along. However, the stand between Mominul and Litton Das didn’t last long as the latter’s attempt to hit Siraj over the mid-off region failed as Rohit Sharma took a one-handed stunner, leaving his teammates and crowd in awe of the stupendous effort by the India skipper.
Another superb one-handed grab by Siraj off Ashwin to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan for 9 stole the show. However, it was Mominul’s century which he brought by sweeping Ashwin behind square for a boundary that was the highlight of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 4, first session. Courtesy of the hundred, Bangladesh reached 205 for 6 at Lunch.

While Mehidy was found edging an outgoing delivery off Bumrah to Shubhman Gill at first slip, Taijul was cleaned up by the speedster. Siraj claimed his second wicket of the innings by trapping Hasan Mahmud leg before wicket for 1. Ravindra Jadeja wrapped up Bangladesh’s innings by taking a catch of Khaled Ahmed off his own bowling. It was Jadeja’s 300 test wicket. Bangladesh was bundled out for 233 in 74.2 overs.

Shakin Al Hasan removed both Shubhman Gill and Rishabh Pant in quick succession. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul got into their gears quickly by smashing Bangladesh bowlers to all corners of the park. They shared a fifth-wicket stand of 87 runs before Kohli was bowled by Shakib as the India legend missed a delivery completely while attempting to smack it out of the ground.
He was out for 47 off 35 balls, smashing four fours and a six. Whereas KL Rahul continued to hammer the hapless Bangladeshi bowling unit in the company of Ravindra Jadeja before the latter was dismissed for 8 by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Mehidy saw Jadeja advancing down the track and shortened his length, inducing an under-edge onto the pad, which lobbed to Shanto at cover.
Shakib claimed his fourth wicket of the innings by hitting the off-stump of Ashwin who was looking to cut an arm ball that skidded off the deck too quickly than the India all-rounder anticipated. Akash Deep, who came out to bat next, slammed two sixes before KL Rahul, in an attempt to hit Mehidy down the track, missed the length completely and was stumped by Litton Das behind the stump. Mehidy then dismissed Akash Deep as he hit one straight to Khaled Ahmed at long-on. India declared at 285 for 9 in 34.4 overs, gaining a first-innings lead of 52 runs.
