Rain Forces Early Close of India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1

Not much display was there as rain continued to interrupt India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1 at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. The match, which was delayed by an hour due to a wet outfield, continued to witness stoppage with incessant rains. The match was evenly poised when the umpires decided to call off the Day 1 proceedings. Here’s a quick snap of what transpired on the first day of the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Match.

India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1, First Session Highlights

India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first to exploit the overcast conditions at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. The game was delayed by an hour due to a wet outfield. So, the decision seemed logical. The Indian bowlers hit the strap immediately by beating the bat of both Bangladesh openers – Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan – on numerous occasions. However, the duo batted with grit and determination to take Bangladesh to 26 in 8.2 overs before Akash Deep, the first change bowler, struck in his first over by removing Zakir Hasan for a duck. It was an excellent catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully.

A couple of overs later, Akash Deep trapped Zakir’s opening partner Shadman Islam before the wicket for 24. The umpire was unmoved despite a loud shout by Akash Deep, who later convinced captain Rohit Sharma to go for the review. The replay showed that the ball was hitting the leg stump, resulting in the third umpire overturning the on-field umpire’s decision. The score was 29 for 2 in India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1, at that point.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto joined Mominul Haque at the crease, and the duo took the team to 74 at lunch without any further loss of wickets. Captain Shanto looked fluent by staying unbeaten at 28, hitting 6 fours, while Mominul stayed unbeaten at 17. It proved to be an even session in India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1 in Kanpur.

Shanto Departs Early in India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1 Session 2

Bangladesh skipper raised the 50-run stand between him and Mominul Haque by lapping one down the fine-leg region for a couple. However, the stand could not last long as Ashwin found Shanto in front of the wicket. While Shanto went for the review, the replays showed that the ball was crashing into the middle stump. An absolute waste of a review by Bangladesh. Soon, the heavens opened up as rain lashed out the Green Park Stadium, prompting the groundsmen to cover the ground. The visitors reached 107 for 3 in 35 overs when rain forced the stoppage of play in India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1. The play was finally called off as rain continued to dampen the ground.
