Border-Gavaskar Trophy – India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3 – Jaiswal, Kohli Hit Tons, India Need Just 7 Wickets to Win Perth Test

What a day it turned out to be for India as they dominated Australia throughout Day 3 of the first Test Match at Perth. Jaiswal and Virat smashed centuries to help India amass 487 for 6. Australia started the 534-run chase on a bad note as they lost three wickets for 12 in 4.2 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohd. Siraj scalped two and a wicket, respectively, to put Men in Blue in the ascendency in India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3 at Perth.

India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3 Live

After a complete domination on Day 2 of the Perth Test Match, India wanted to push ahead further with the overnight batters. Yashasvi Jaiswal started the Day with a single off the very first ball. After a relatively quiet first over from Josh Hazlewood, both KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a boundary each off Mitchell Starc the following over. Jaiswal hit a six off Hazlewood a few overs later over the third-man region to bring up his century.

However, the 201-run stand was finally broken as Mitchell Starc got one to straighten off the deck to find KL Rahul’s edge on the way to Alex Carey. KL scored 77 that included five boundaries.

Jaiswal Continues to Bite Aussie Bowlers with Breathtaking Strokes

Jaiswal slashed one hard that flew over the gully for four in the 64th over of the innings in India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3. Devdutt Padikkal opened his account with a glide past gully for three runs. Jaiswal slashed hard to a delivery outside off that fetched him four runs. After the first hour, Australian skipper Pat Cummins brought Nathan Lyon into the bowling attack. In his second over, Jaiswal heaved him across the line to hit a boundary in front of square.

Padikkal got his first boundary as he dispatched a full toss from Marnus Labuschagne to the fence. He raised the 50-run stand between him and Jaiswal with a single off Travis Head. Frustration crept in the Australian bowlers as Hazlewood bowled down the leg side to Padikkal twice in one over to concede four byes.

Even the second ball didn’t work for Australia as Jaiswal hit Starc through the off-side for a boundary. At Lunch, India reached 275 for 1, taking their overall lead to 321 runs. The session yielded India 101 runs with the loss of only one wicket. While Jaiswal reached 141, Padikkal scored 25 to take the team to a dominating position in India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3.

India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3, Post-lunch Session

Australia broke through early in the second session as Hazlewood induced an outside edge from Padikkal to Steve Smith in the slip cordon. However, Jaiswal soon brought up his 150. Virat Kohli came in and looked good with a slight adjustment in his technique. The veteran batter was seen to have taken the leg stump guard to stay away from fishing outside the off stump that accounted for his dismissals behind the wicket in the recent past.

Kohli brought up India’s 300 with a single off Mitchell Marsh. He hit his first boundary of the innings with a straight drive off Pat Cummins. Jaiswal ended that over with a boundary at the long-off region. Yashasvi Jaiswal could not capitalise on a loose delivery outside off from Mitchell Marsh as he hit that straight to Steve Smith at point. Jaiswal scored 161, slamming 15 fours and three sixes.

Australia Make a Comeback, Dismiss Pant, Jurel in Quick Succession

Rishabh Pant came with a mindset to attack the bowlers. He charged down the track to Mitchell Marsh first ball. However, Marsh threw it wide and away from Plant’s hitting zone. However, Pant could not last long as he was stumped by Alex Carey off the bowling of Nathan Lyon for 1. It was his first wicket of the game. Jurel also departed for 1 as Pat Cummins trapped him leg before wicket.

Virat Kohli soon hit a six with an upper cut off Mitchell Starc to signal his intent to score runs quickly on a slightly up and down surface. Washington Sundar lifted Travis Head for a six at deep extra cover. Virat then swept Lyon in front of the backward square leg fielder for a boundary. India reached 359 for 5 at Tea, with a lead of 405 runs. Virat and Washington stayed not out at 40 and 14, respectively.

India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3, Final Session

Pat Cummins conceded two back-to-back fours in the third over of the session. The first one through a short delivery that rose above Virat and Carey and went to the fence, while the second one through an inside edge off Virat Kohli. However, the veteran batter soon raised his half-century with a flick through mid-wicket off Pat Cummins. Virat smashed a half-volley from Starc to the left of the mid-off fielder for a boundary.

Nathan Lyon soon dismissed Washington Sundar, who failed to contact the ball while attempting a sweep shot as the ball went on to knock his stumps. Sundar scored 29 off 94 balls. The 6th-wicket partnership fetched India 89 runs. India’s score was 410 for 6 at the fall of Sundar. Nitish Reddy came in and got off the mark straightaway with a sweep to deep backward square for a couple. The next over saw him smash a huge six off Mitchell Marsh over backward square.

In Marsh’s next over, Nitish slammed three back-to-back fours. Virat, in the following over, hit a flat six off Nathon Lyon straight down the ground. He hit two fours off Labuschagne in the following over, signalling his intent to up the ante as India looked to declare before the close of play. Nitish Reddy also continued to play shots as he slammed Labuschagne for a massive six at long-on. Virat Kohli finally brought up his 30th Test hundred by sweeping Marnus for a boundary on the leg-side. With that, India declared. India ended their second innings at 487 for 6, a mammoth lead of 533 runs.

Australia Begin Second Innings on a Worst Note

Jasprit Bumrah struck in the very first over by trapping the opener Nathan McSweeney leg before wicket for a duck. The ball kept low and hit McSweeney before the wicket. Usman Khwaja opened his and Australia’s account in the second innings by clipping a ball of Mohd. Siraj past the square leg fielder for three runs. The first boundary for Australia came with a bye as Bumrah strayed way down the leg side while bowling to Khwaja. Pat Cummins fell to Mohd. Siraj as the Indian seamer got the former to play away from the crease and edge to Virat Kohli at second slip. Kangaroos were 9 for 2 in India vs Australia 1st Test Day 3, at that stage. Bumrah dismissed Marnus Labuschagne LBW for 3. Australia were reduced to 12 for 3 as the umpires called Stumps on Day 3.
